I’m thrilled to be competing in the semi finals for the Harlem Opera Theater Vocal Competition! When I first came across the information, I had I missed the deadline by just a few hours. I made a quick phone call to beg and plead for an extension, but learned that the deadline had already been extended. I jumped at the opportunity and BOOM! Here we are!
The repertoire for the competition was a perfect fit with the music I’ve been working on, although I had to pick two additional arias since I’m not singing one in the recital. I did a little searching, and went with two arias that I love to listen to as much as I love to sing. The first one is Tamino’s aria from The Magic Flute:
I mean, it’s Fritz Wunderlich…singing Mozart. Inspiration!
And then there’s Henri “Impeccable French” Legay singing Mylio’s aubade from Le Roi d’Ys:
As I said before, some of the music comes from my recital as well. But I don’t want to give it all away!
I hope you pray for and with me as I embark on this unexpected part of the journey. I could not imagine this one week ago, but I’m ready to see where God is taking me. The competition is already about more than winning for me. I’m just as happy enjoying the music and talent of others, meeting new artists, and possibly gaining a fan or two 😉
With that in mind, I’ll be fine.
